Background
- 68-year-old asymptomatic Hispanic male accountant with recently recognized hypertension (HTN)
- Cardiovascular risk factors:
- Cigarettes: 1/2 pack/day X 44 y
- Psychologic stress: divorce in progress, seasonal stress (IRS deadline)
- No other major risk factors
- Blood pressure (BP) has averaged 176/78 mm Hg
Physical Examination
- Height: 5'10"; weight, 190 lb
- BP: 180/78 mm Hg; P: 86, regular; RR: 24/min
- No jugular venous distension
- Right carotid bruit
- Chest clear
- Cardiac examination: S4 gallop, no murmur
- (ECG): normal
